With the number of international students enrolled in Canadian post-secondary institutions on the rise, the scope of higher education is changing. International students totalled 245,895 in 2016/2017, representing 12.0% of overall enrolments, increasing 17% to 435,415 in 2018 (CBIE, 2018). With this exponential growth comes an emerging area of concern in the mental well-being of students. As institutions work through this sensitive and multifaceted issue, this presentation will examine the various warning signs that may be observed both inside and outside the classroom, through a culturally competent lens, providing attendees some tips on ways to best support their international students.
